Groundbreaking For
Underwood Plaza On Dickson Street

(Fayetteville, AR - October 2006) Developer Alexander, Merry-Ship & Alt Real Estate Group, Inc., in association with developer Nock Investments, LLC, broke ground at the future Dickson Street site of Underwood Plaza on Friday, October 20, 2006, at 2 p.m. Diplomats from the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce were in attendance.

In addition to original downtown Fayetteville condominium specialists Richard Alexander and Rob Merry-Ship, partners on the project include John Nock, Bill Underwood, Craig Underwood and Ted and Leslie Belden.

Alexander and Merry-Ship have been the premier developers in downtown Fayetteville's revitalization for numerous years.¬ They are noted for several renovation projects including The Inn at Carnall Hall, The UARK Bowl condominiums and events center, The Ozark Theater building and, most recently, the condominium conversion of the former St. Joseph Äôs Catholic Church property in the historic district. Their talents have earned multiple awards throughout the years.

Underwood Plaza will occupy the space adjacent to the current Underwood's Fine Jewelers footprint-style building, including 150 feet of Dickson Street frontage. Nearby the University of Arkansas and well within walking distance of the Fayetteville Downtown Square, the nine-story mixed-use project will contain luxury loft condominiums for those interested in downtown living and upscale commercial spaces for businesses, retailers and restaurateurs.

The building design by local architect Robert Sharp is loft-inspired, paying tribute to New Orleans with plenty of outdoor terraces and providing top-floor residents with a 360-degree vista of Fayetteville. In addition, the building will feature a five-story, concealed garage with 303 parking spaces for residents, tenants and patrons.

The site of Underwood Plaza is the "catbird seat of all locations" according to Bill Underwood because it sits directly on Dickson Street, the "natural tie between the community and the University."

The project is due for completion in the late spring of 2008.
